Composite or Wood? An Honest Comparison
- PRESSURE-TREATED PINE: the lowest cost per square foot and the easiest to match when a board gets damaged. Needs cleaning and re-sealing every couple of years or it greys and checks.
- CEDAR: sits flatter and looks better bare than treated pine, costs more, still wants sealing.
- COMPOSITE: the highest up-front cost and effectively no maintenance beyond washing. Colour is locked in on the day you choose it. It also gets hot in full sun, which matters on a pool deck.
There is no single right answer. If you intend to stay ten years and never think about it again, composite usually wins. If budget is the constraint, treated pine done properly outlasts composite that's done badly.
